at Agape Center
Office Assistant
Purpose:
To guide the patient through their office visit from pretesting to frame or
contact lens selecting to checkout.
For this
position you will need to be highly responsible, mature, conscientious,
and duty-oriented. You also must be very
attentive to detail and show good follow-through. Planning
well is another desirable trait as is being notably
thorough and careful in your work.
Emotionally you should be
very “steady” and even-keeled, predictable,
and generally upbeat and optimistic. Computer
experience is a definite plus.
This
position requires being practical, pragmatic, and a
“bottom-line” type that focuses
on solutions to problems rather than abstraction, theory, or philosophy.
You should be comfortable with routine and
don’t require a lot of change and variability in
your work life.
Experience in this field is not mandatory but it is preferred.
Finally, you
should take a generally positive, accepting view of other people,
giving others the benefit of the doubt.
This
position, at the minimum, will require working hours from 1:30pm until 6:30pm,
Monday through Friday (except Wednesday). This could also be a full time
position (9:30am-6:30pm Monday through Friday) depending on your
experience, qualifications and needs.

Communicate with other staff members in order to route patients effectively
Measure patients current prescription glasses/contact lenses and record in
chart

Retirement

Bonus -
on occasion,
qualifying employees may be awarded a discretionary bonus. Bonuses are based
upon such factors as office performance and individual
merit, and are awarded at the sole discretion of the
Agape Center.
Vacation
- full time employees accrue vacation depending on length of employment.
For the first two years, one week of vacation is accrued. Years three
through five accrue two weeks of vacation and six years and beyond accrues 3
weeks of vacation.
Paid
Holidays - full time employees are paid for
New Year’s Day, Memorial
Day, Independence Day, Labor
Day, Thanksgiving Day and
Christmas Day.
Personal Holiday -
as a full-time employee, you receive annually one
personal paid holiday. Your personal paid holiday may be used as you wish to
observe a religious holiday, your birthday, or to take care of a personal
commitment.
Sick Leave -
full-time employees accrue sick leave on a monthly basis at a rate of one-half
day for each month of service, up to a total of six days per year.
Vision Plan
- provided at no cost to you - includes unlimited examinations, glasses/contact
lenses (up to $150 wholesale cost per year) and therapy as needed.
Your immediate family (spouse, children living at home and parents) will be
extended one free exam per year and a 20% courtesy on all materials and
supplies.
Education -
our goal is to provide the highest quality of
comprehensive care. To that end, we encourage you to attend educational
programs to strive to expand your knowledge base. We will often schedule
in-house training meetings, and send staff to various outside training
programs. Prior approval from James B. Mayer, O.D. is required for all
courses. Where attendance is approved, or if you are being required to attend a
course, we will pay for your registration fees and any reasonable expenses (they
must be documented with receipts). If the course is not local, you may be
reimbursed for gas ($0.30 per mile) and lodging on a per case basis. If the
education is scheduled during your normal work time, normal pay will apply. If
the outside education is not during normal work time, you will not be paid,
except for registration, travel, etc.
Social
Security/Medicare - all
employees are covered under the provisions of the federal social security
(F.I.C.A.) and Medicare laws. The
amount of deduction from your wages for social security taxes is matched by
our office (7.65% of your wage) in accordance with
current law.
Federal
and State Unemployment Insurance - all employees are covered under this
program. The office pays 5.8% of your wage to pay for it.
Worker's
Compensation -
all employees are covered for work related injuries
from the first moment on the job. This benefit is
provided at no cost to the employee. The office pays this premium, which
is 6.4% of your wage. Injuries must be reported
within 24 hours of the injury.
