Modified Monovision Contact
Lenses
Q: What are Modified Monovision Contacts?
A: A variant of monovision, Modified Monovision, puts
either a bifocal contact lens
in one eye and a single- vision contact lens in the other eye;
or a bifocal contact lens
set for better near vision and a bifocal contact lens in
the other eye set for better distance vision.
Q: What is the purpose of Modified
Monovision?
A: It gives better binocular vision than straight monovision, while still permitting near vision for reading.
Q: This sounds pretty complicated. Does it work?
A: It is a compromise compared to both eyes seeing
relatively equally at distance and near. However, it is better than straight monovision.
Q: When is Modified Monovision
used?
A: We tend to use Modified Monovision only if Simultaneous Vision and
Segmented bifocals don't
work as expected.
