Photochromic Lenses

These are wonderful lenses for people on the go!  Corning Thin and Dark glass photochromic lenses

  • The lenses darkened for sunny outdoor activities and become clear when indoors.
  • The rate of change between dark and clear has improved tremendously.
  • The change from outside to inside usually occurs within 1-2 minutes.
  • The light transmission inside is comparable to regular clear lenses.
  • The outside darkening is very similar to sunglasses.
  • Darkening depends on temperature and the amount of UV present.
  • Especially valuable for light sensitive patients.
  • They are available in plastic, glass & polycarbonate materials.
  • Lens availability includes single vision, bifocals and progressive lenses.
  • Gray, brown and fashion tints (yellow, violet, orange, blue, rose & teal) are available.
  • As a general rule, photochromic lenses won’t darken behind the windshield because the glass blocks out the UV rays that cause the lenses to change color.
